F is For First Times, Five Buck Forum And A Filing Cabinet

My First Time - I finally finished the first story I plan to submit under a pen name. It's for a YA anthology and I wrote it with a specific publisher in mind. Let's just hope they like it.

Oddly enough, the theme for this anthology is My First Time, but unlike my last "My First Time" contribution, this one is fiction.

The deadline is still far off, so I have time to polish the story before submitting it.Will let you know if  it's accepted.

Meanwhile, please do buy My First Time published by Worldreader.org, a collection of true stories to tell girls that whatever they're embarrassed, scared, or excited about, they're not alone.

The stories  are interesting and span both the magic of self-discovery and the exploitation of innocence. The proceeds go to a good cause.

2. Five Buck Forum -   If you're looking for a supportive writers' community, then the Five Buck Forum may be for you. For $5 per month,  you get:

  • Exclusive access to the writing forum where professional freelancers hang out
  • Discounts on webinars plus ebooks and other resources
  • Members-only phone chats
  • Special guest-hosted webinars that you get for 10% off
  • Lively forum discussion threads that boost your skills
  • Proprietary job alerts
  • Self-paced workshops and courses.
  • The "Getting Started In Freelance Writing" Course  is also included.
Filing Cabinet - I spent the morning shopping online for a filing cabinet. Finding a good quality, reasonably priced one was easy. Unfortuantely, most of the sellers were based in Joburg and while I could buy it from there, the transportation costs would push the price higher, negating the savings I'd make buying online.

I guess I'll just have to do my shopping in person soon, because I really need to rearrange my filing system, make it much more organised so admin is no longer such a mission.

Lol when I saw My First Time, something ELSE came to mind :-) well done and good luck with the venture. And don't talk to me about filing, mine is in a perpetual mess and with a new client who works for the CCMA, I'd better do something about it.

LOL Gaynor. Don't go THERE:-)
@rebecca - Thank you. I'll post the link. Deadline is 1 May, and if they accept it, then they'll go to contract end of May. So it will be a while before I know.

Hi Damaria.
Thanks for visiting my place and signing up for my Ubuntu Bloghop!

I love the name of your blog... Storypot... it has an "earthy" appeal... makes me think of a pot filled with all sorts of wholesome and interesting tales...
I see that you're already busy with an alphabet challenge? And you've signed up for the A to Z Challenge too?

@Michelle - Thank you. That was the visual I wanted people to have when they think of my blog. Essentially this is where I cook up my stories and my blog readers get a behind the scenes look as it happens.

I decided that this year I was going to do as many blog challenges as I could manage, so I could expand my blogging horizons/friendships. I blog daily and the alphabet challenge happens only twice a week, so taking part in one more challenge shouldn't be a problem.

As for the ubuntu challenge, as a South African, ubuntu is more than just a philosophical theory... it is part of how I live, so I thought blogging about it should be very interesting. Though I'm not Zulu (ubuntu is a Zulu word), so in my language we call it Botho. Still means the same thing though.

Congrats on the book. I'm sure it will be a help. I love hearing success stories concerning authors and realize how much of yourself is invested in those words.

Congratulations on the book it sounds great. There are a lot of youngsters out there that are too scared to talk to anyone or even go out and buy a physical book, but if they can download it onto their mobile device it's just for their eyes only.

Great post!

@shawn - You're right. I'm not my characters, but I invest a lot of myself on my writing.
@Michelle Gibson - that's one of the reasons why I like ebooks. They can be very private and you don't have to explain to anybody what you're reading. For youngsters, it's important because you can learn about a topic without being embarassed or having to justify your interest.

It used to irritate me so much when I was young, that people felt free to comment/criticise/question what I was reading and whether I should/should not be reading it. Some made me feel like I had to justify why I would read something (e.g they'd argue it has no literary merit. Who cares that it's fluff? Sometimes I just read it because it was entertaining.)
