Virtually everyone who owns a television or that reads the newspaper knows what Madeleine McCann looks like - the features of the toddler, abducted from her parents hotel room in Portugal in May, have been broadcast around the world in the hopes of finding a clue as to her whereabouts.

Her story is particularly resonant in South Africa, where so many children are abducted, raped or murdered every single year, as highlighted by the fact that a Rawsonville man has just been charged with the murder of two-year old Sonja Brown.
