For all my South African readers, I hope your 5-day weekend was very nice and restful and that you had an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. Here's an update of what I've been up to:
1. Books 1-6 that I worked for a client in 2011 have been provisionally approved by the Department of Basic Education. Yaaaay! I'm the publisher, not the author, on the books, so no huge royalties for me. But I'm happy for the authors, proud that I was involved in the project and hopeful that this will build my rep in publishing so I can get regular assignments like this one from this client and others like it.
2. Removed the old wall tiles in the bathroom. The tiles were old ( installed in 1976 when the house was first built) and the place really needs some work. Tiler came in today to give estimate. Hopefully he'll finish installing new ones by the end of next week.
3. Went into Joburg a couple of times last week with a van and came back with boxes full of files and a desk, one desktop PC and a big kitchen table and chairs. Spent the long weekend unpacking and rearranging the house. A big thanks to my nephew Agisanang for the help in transporting stuff and helping me unpack.
4. Lately I've been stalking author Rayda Jacobs, she who wrote the popular Confessions of a gambler and 9 other novels and started an email conversation with her about the writing life and families. Rayda has been writing and publishing Internet articles and asked on her latest blog post if writing Internet articles (the kind generating income through Adsense and Chikita) are worth the writer's time and effort. My answer was a resounding"No, they're not!" The great thing about the Internet is that it gives you the opportunity to chat up people that you wouldn't have easily met in real life. So commenting on Rayda's post and later emailing her started a lovely conversation that continued through the weekend. I'm glad I commented because she's a lovely human being in addition to being a great writer and it's always nice to connect with new people. BTW, if you didn't read Confessions of a Gambler when it first came out, get it now. And nope, she doesn't pay me to say that:-)
BTW, the fifth Annual Writer's Worth Day, hosted by Lori over at Words on the page, is coming up soon. There are many ways in which you can mark the day.Please help spread the word? I'm also planning to email some of you asking you to take a more active part in the event.

Sounds like a fruitful week. Congratulations on the provisional approvals! That's a lot of work rewarded. Not surprised because it's you, but that's still a LOT of work! That's going to look amazing on the portfolio.
Thanks for the link love, too! Writers Worth Week is about to extend, I think. I've had great feedback from folks wanting to contribute. We may turn this into a month yet!
