Baby is a reader

Baby, who turned 8 in May, is reading her third chapter book. I’m very excited about this development, because she can now read alone, and has discovered the magic of books.

She’s reading “Finding the Meridian,” book 3 in the Witch series. Adapted by Elizabeth Lenhard and published Funtastic.

The book is about five girls who are dedicated to using their powers to find their friend Elion, who has disappeared. Finding the Meridian is the first step in solving the mystery,

The first book she read was The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett published by Hinkler Books.

The Secret Garden, a very popular story about the power of friendship, is about a girl called Mary, who is sent to live with her sad uncle when her parents die. She hates it there, until she discovers the mysterious garden that has been locked up for years.

The second book was Heidi, Johanna Spyri, also published by Hinkler Books. The story of Heidi, which has also been popular for many years, is about an orphan girl who lives with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps.

Would love to claim that I instilled this new love for books, but frankly, I don’t know how it came about. We are a family of readers, so I suspect that it was natural that she become curious about the contents of books and start reading herself.
