SCBWI Gauteng's Programme For The First Half of 2008

I've previously mentioned that I've been asked to present a blogging workshop by an industry association. Well, that organisation is the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators ( Gauteng) and the workshop I present will be part of the programme for first half of 2008.


Please diarise the following dates so you don't miss any one of these events.

Date: 28 February 2008
Where: Sandton Public Library (Auditorium)
Time: 10:00 - 11:00
Description: Multiple images of South African adolescents as reflected in Youth Literature
Judith Inggs, an expert on South African Youth Literature, and Associate Professor at Wits University, will share some of her research into character portrayals in South African literature.
Time: 11:30 - 12:00
Description: Maryanne and Shayle Bester will talk about writing and illustrating their books for children, namely Three friends and a taxi, The cool Nguni (for which they received the Exclusive Books IBBY award) and Nguni calf and the very long trousers.
Cost: For Non-members R90 per person, for SCBWI members R45 per person(includes tea and lunch)

Description: Writing for children
Reviva Schermbrucker is a freelance writer of children's books, teacher and facilitator. She has presented this course in Cape Town a number of times. Description: Blogging for writers and illustrators
Description: Damaria Senne will introduce the concept of blogging, talk about different types of blogs, writers who have web presence, blog content and resources. There will be a practical session during which she will demonstrate how to set up a blog. Writers and illustrators will find out how they can promote their work through online blog presence.
