According to the organisers, “the DCI aspires to equip Africans with skills related to new media which empower them and the organisations they work for by creating a long-lasting, far-reaching digital voice.”
The event bring together bloggers, podcasters, vodcasters, mobile journalists, citizen reporters, new media practitioners, online industry experts, and civil society representatives, the organisation says.

The DCI is part of the Highway Africa Conference, the largest annual gathering of African journalists in the world. Last year the event attracted 701 journalist participants.
Highway Africa is a partnership between Rhodes University (School of Journalism and Media Studies) and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), with the support of several partners, development agencies and sponsors.

I just asked on Twitter if DCI is the South African equivalent of the South by Southwest conference which occurs in Austin, Texas, USA each year.
I spent a summer in RSA in 1970...I was 12, turning 13 at the time.

@Douglasbass - I read up on the South by Southwest, and it sounds different from the DCI.
The DCI is mostly about activism - the tools available to the digital citizen, and how Africans can use these tools for development, have a voice in the global arena.
